DCR - breeding place
DCR is a cultural hotspot in The Hague in the former 1930s offices of the Electriciteitsfabriek. Right next to the (still!) Working city power station of Uniper, landmark for The Hague with the distant high factory chimneys and monumental architecture by city architect Schadee.
A special feature of our breeding ground is the combination of four cultural stages with different studios for independent makers and a café. There is Zaal 3, the experimental theater of Het Nationale Theater, Studio LOOS as the center for new music, Nest is the platform for contemporary visual art and Cloud is our laboratory in the field of dance.
The 40 studios are used by all kinds of makers: visual artists, designers, architects, musicians, organizers, filmmakers, writers, choreographers, animators, dancers, boosters, builders, researchers and light makers. From young upcoming talent to professional creatives.
If you rent in the DCR, you have a well-facilitated studio and nice extras. Because we offer space for concentration and meeting. In the former sky bridge you can brainstorm, meet or relax. Just like in Room 3, which also serves breakfast, lunch, dinner, coffee and theater experiments.
DCR is full of makers, so there is a large workshop with adjoining outdoor space. And the three guest studios house artists who work on a project basis in The Hague. For inspiration outside DCR you can step into the Energiekwartier; full of development and always on the move. Public transport stops around the corner and there are plenty of parking spaces in front of the door. You can cycle to the station, academy or conservatory in ten minutes by bike. And 15 minutes in the other direction is the Zuiderstrand, to bake or get some fresh air.
