Jorge Variego was born in 1975 in Rosario, Argentina. He has a doctorate degree in music composition from the University of Florida; a master of music degree in composition and clarinet performance form Carnegie Mellon University; and a JD equivalent from the National University of Rosario. He currently serves as assistant professor of music composition, theory and woodwinds at Valley City State University.
Actively involved with technology in sound and music, Jorge has been a pioneer in the field of interactive computer music, having created or performed a great deal of works for clarinet and electronics in the US, Europe and South America. He participated in many international computer music festivals such as MATA, SEAMUS, EMS, Sonoimagenes and can be heard on many CDs, including his most recent solo CD “Necessity” which was released with Albany records.
Johan van Kreij (1969) improvises and composes music. He studied Sonology from 1994 at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague, graduating in 1998. Frequently he performs his music, solo or with other musicians. A long running intensive cooperation with the choreographer Ted Stoffer, starting in 1998, has materialised as music composed to a great number of dance performances. He has taken steps in the field of music theatre trough cooperations with Dick Raaijmakers and Paul Koek. An important aspect of his work is the development and realisation of his own instruments. This development covers the fields of hardware, of sensors and equipment used as the gestural part of the instrument, and software, employing a wide range of synthesis models forming the sounding part of the instrument. In the role of developer, he has participated in many projects in the field of music, visual arts and architecture. Since 2001 he has been a permanent member of the teaching staff at Sonology.
Jan Trützschler von Falkenstein – electronics
Jan T. (Jan Trützschler von Falkenstein) works in the field of computer music, media art and creative coding since the late 1990s. He performs ‘crispy’ sound collages using novel and custom made interfaces, produces sonic installations and occasionally composes for ensembles and fixed media. Currently he focuses on designing audio apps for mobile devices which are released under TeaTracks.
In the past years Jan contributed to the open source audio software SuperCollider. His music has been performed across the world at festivals such as ICSM World Music Days, ICMC, Spark, MusicAcoustica, TodaysArt, BEAST. Jan studied Media Design in Weimar, Sonology in Den Haag and Computer Music at the University of Birmingham. Machinefabriek – electronics
Machinefabriek is the alias of Rutger Zuydervelt. Rutger’s music combines elements of ambient, noise, minimalism, drone, field recordings and electro-acoustic experiments. His pieces can be heard as an attempt to create sonic environments for the listener to dwell in. Finding tension in texture, tone and timing, the result can be very minimalistic at first glance, but reveals itself upon closer listening. The devil is in the details.
Rutger was born in 1978 in Apeldoorn (The Netherlands) and now resides in Rotterdam. He started recording as Machinefabriek in 2004. After a series of self released cd-rs, his official debut Marijn was issued in 2006, with great critical acclaim. Since than, a solid stream of music was released on labels such as Type, Important, Home Normal, 12K, Entr’acte, Dekorder, Digitalis, Experimedia and Staalplaat. He performed all over the globe, from Canada to Israel and from Russia to Japan.
