Cornelis de Bondt - The Essence of the Ornament
We would like to congratulate Cornelis de Bondt with receival of an artistic research subsidy for “The Essence of the Ornament”.
The aim of the research is to gain more insight into what the essence of a work of art is. Where does the decoration begin, and to what extent can the decoration be considered an essential element of the work? For example, colouring original black and white images, or orchestrating a piano work. What does this add to the essence of work or a ritual? In this research: What does the level of technology used to add to the essence of the work of art?
Cornelis de Bondt compares low-tech and high-tech video (including audio) in combination with midi-composition.
1.low-tech: use smartphone+DOS-general midi card;
2. high-tech: professional camera+high-tech samples.
The result will be 2 videos + audio of 1,5 minutes each. These are publicly compared and discussed during a presentation in Studio LOOS plus on LOOS Channel to determine where in version 2 (high-tech) the ornamentation begins and what can be considered the essence of the work.
Cornelis de Bondt: Composer [from 1975], teacher of music theory at KC [1987-2020].
